TATTOO AFTER CARE

Protecting Your Investment

So, you want to get a tattoo! Congratulations!!

It doesn’t matter if this is your very first tattoo, or your body is a walking billboard for the coolest inkmaster, it’s important to take care of your ink. What do you need to know?

First of all, you want to be prepared before you go. We would recommend you avoid any UV rays on the new tattoo area at least a few days before you go. You don’t want even a hint of sunburn in the area where your artist will be working – this will only exacerbate any irritation and pain.

Another thing we would recommend is the area be clean, exfoliated and moisturized a few hours before you show up for your appointment. The tattoo artist will be placing tiny holes in your skin, so it’s important that the area be very clean and that all dead skin cells are removed. This will not only help ward off any infection but ensure that your tattoo is bright and vivid.

Using an all-natural moisturizer (we recommend GLOW or WILDERNESS) will keep the area soft and supple prior to the appointment, making it easier for the artist to work, and yielding you the best results. We also recommend you are rested, have had a good meal, and that you’re properly hydrated. Now, you’re ready to go!

Once your work of art has been completed, your artist will advise you on how long to wear the bandage and when you can begin washing the newly inked area. It’s important to wash your hands well before tending to the new tattoo so that no bacteria enter the already tender and exposed area. We recommend the NO NONSENSE bar because it contains no colorant or scent, and the Shea butter helps retain moisture.

Do not use any type of exfoliating soap on the area. Until your tattoo is completely healed, you don’t want to subject it to any type of rubbing or rough particles. In fact, only use a fresh, white paper towel to pat it dry after gently washing it with color free, scent free soap.

When your artist advises you to begin moisturizing, you will want to do this every 8-10 hours or so (typically after washing it). There are several “lotions” that have been recommended as tattoo after care products. The issue with these is they contain petrolatum, which is a toxic byproduct of the refining process of crude oil. It can clog pores and even lead to infection or an allergic reaction.

Our Tattoo Butter is made specifically for tattoo after care. It contains the following ingredients:

Shea butter:

Shea butter is anti-inflammatory so it’s great for pain relief and wound recovery. It also contains fatty acids and vitamins that help regenerate the cells in the newly tattooed area. This will help with the longevity of the tattoo and accelerate healing. It is also an emollient, so it keeps theskin smooth and protected. Because of its antioxidant properties, it keeps skin healthy andkeeps the color vibrant.

Cocoa butter:

Cocoa butter keeps skin moisturized, which helps keep the newly tattooed area from cracking or flaking as a result of dehydration. Because of its high fat content, cocoa butter serves as a protective barrier. The antioxidants it contains also help the healing process as they fight free radicals and the damage they can cause. This will ensure the skin remains youthful and healthy.

Vitamin E:

Vitamin E is essential for keeping your skin from developing scars. It also strengthens your skin’s barrier function and improves blood circulation, which helps bring out the color of your tattoo. It is also long lasting and very soothing.

Aloe:

Aloe is all natural and very soothing, making it an amazing ingredient in your after-care program. It absorbs quickly and promotes healing.

This butter was designed to work quickly without clogging pores so the skin can breathe. It is important that natural healing take place to protect the skin and maintain the integrity of the new ink. But do you know what you won’t find in our Tattoo Butter? Colors or fragrances! That’s right – only the four ingredients listed above can be found in our Tattoo Butter – which means there are no additives or preservatives either.

Got some older tattoos? Everything from sun, stress, weight loss or gain, moisture (or lack thereof) and time can affect the look of older tattoos. If you’re hoping to bring back the vibrancy and sharpness of older tattoos, our tattoo butter helps with that too! Simply rub it directly into the tattoo 2-3 times per day and, over the course of a couple weeks, you will notice the colors start to “pop”, with a bit more definition of the original art.

You invest quite a bit into your tattoos – time, energy, and money! It’s important to keep your skin healthy and protect your investment. Grab yourself a jar of our Yahwehs Natural Tattoo Butter when it is released on October 10th. Natural, safe, effective skincare the way God intended – that's Yahwehs Naturals.
