Why Charcoal Isn’t Just for Grilling!

Backyard Charcoal Grill

One of the most quintessential signs of summer is firing up the charcoal grill and enjoying a backyard barbecue! In the summertime, food just tastes better when it’s cooked on the grill, am I right? But, is the charcoal we use to enjoy our burgers and dogs going to help our skin? Yes, and no.

Regular charcoal is made with a variety of ingredients, including coal, wood pulp and coconut shells and then formed into brick like shapes for use in your backyard grill. The charcoal found in skincare contains ingredients such as coal and bamboo that is then “activated” by exposing it to extremely high temperatures, without oxygen. The activation process creates a powder that is very porous, making it a skincare superpower!

Who Should Use Activated Charcoal?

Anyone can benefit from using activated charcoal as part of a skincare routine. However, some folks truly need to incorporate it……..people like:

~ Those Who Work Outside for a Living (police officers, construction workers, farmers)

~ Gym Enthusiasts and Athletes

A group of people working out

~ People With Dirty Jobs (mechanics, firemen, landscapers)

~ Anyone Who Has Excess Sweat or Issues with Blackheads or Acne

How Does Activated Charcoal Work?

Our skin is made up of small pores that can easily trap unwanted toxins. These toxins come from dirt, dust, excess sweat, pollution, and chemical residue from makeup, lotions, sunscreens, etc. Over time, as pores become full, skin conditions such as blackheads and acne can develop. Activated charcoal is able to penetrate deeply into pores, attracting and binding to these toxins. What are the benefits?

The benefits of activated charcoal in skincare are many:

  • Absorbs excess oil

  • Unclogs and detoxifies pores

  • Exfoliates naturally without the need for harsh scrubbing

  • Removes impurities

  • Controls sebum production

  • Reduces appearance of large pores

  • Improves skin texture

  • Clears acne

  • Brightens skin

We make using activated charcoal simple for you. Our new Charcoal and Tea Tree bar is safe to use, not only on your face, but all of your body. For those with excess sweat, it is especially beneficial on the back (some of our customers suffer from acne breakouts here), the chest (we have a police officer who suffers in the summer due to his bullet proof vest), and under the arm pits. This bar gives a thorough, exfoliating clean.

In addition to activated charcoal, this bar is infused with tea tree oil which helps to kill germs because of its antimicrobial and antifungal properties and helps to soothe insect bites and acne flareups due to its anti-inflammatory properties. And the Shea butter in our Charcoal and Tea Tree bar helps to moisturize and protect skin.

We recommend a good moisturizer after using the Charcoal and Tea Tree bar to keep skin protected. Our Moisturizing Face Serum also acts as a toner, so it calms the skin while hydrating. For the body, we recommend GLOW for women and WILDERNESS for men. Both products contain skin loving hydration, as well as aloe and Vitamin E for added protection. Your skin will love you for it!
